Overall, a three star read! Seeing as the rest of the series is rated so high, I think I need to go back and start from the beginning! But the romance aspect seemed a little quick for me. One thing I did really appreciate was how fierce the female characters were! Nix was determined, honest and unapologetically herself. It’s an interesting concept that they’d go to a school to learn how to be ruthless- my obvious question being- wouldn’t they all know the same techniques? And do they really care about their grades? Anyways, this was like a Hogwarts for mafia families. That being said, I was intrigued about who the spy was!Īlthough this is categorized as a dark romance, it’s quite tame compared to other mafia books I’ve read. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew the other character’s back stories. Although this can be read as a standalone, I felt wildly lost at the beginning and felt that I missed some of the world building that’s probably present in the first book of the series. With that being said, I’m not sure my review will be completely fair. This is also the first one in the series that I’ve read. The Spy is Sophie Lark’s fourth instalment in the Kingmakers series surrounding a new set of students, all while still incorporating characters from past novels. Nix will have to be cautious with her new friendships- someone’s not telling the truth.
